Upskill with corporate data training, tailored to your needs

Data is the lifeblood of your organisation. Managed well, it adds enormous value. Managed poorly, and it could see your organisation on the front page.

From everyday users to data specialists, upgrading data skillsets turns data from risky business into a competitive advantage. Equip your workforce for the future with corporate data training that’s customised to your needs and in line with international standards.

You can be confident that your people are learning data skills from CDMP Masters who create the learning content, personally deliver our training and infuse the experience with real-world experience and stories.

The war for data talent is unwinnable: Training is the sustainable choice

With data now seen as a strategic asset, the war for data talent is set to heat up even further. Data management skills are essential to ensure the integrity, value and security of your data.

You need employees who can spot data problems, make solid decisions, protect your reputation, and create consistent data practices across your organisation.

Using international best practice, we create learning experiences where your people will learn WHY they should do data a certain way, and then immediately apply the learnings to relevant work situations. All tailored to your organisation’s needs.

Flexible training pathways

Uplifting data skills is overwhelming and out of reach if you create training content in-house or rely solely on custom training. The Institute of Data Management can support your needs with a hybrid training strategy that blends our live, public online training courses with self-paced online courses and custom training where needed. This approach allows you to introduce foundational data skills and knowledge quickly and at a lower cost, while providing custom training for company-specific data initiatives and executive engagement.

How it works

How corporate data training works (1)

Custom data training use cases

We create custom data training to meet your unique data challenges. Just a few examples:

Challenge: Your data governance maturity is assessed and a roadmap is in place. Now you need to engage stakeholders to put it into practice.

Training solution:

  • Training for data stewards and owners provides knowledge, encouragement, and helps your stakeholders identify practical steps to activate data governance.
  • Your data strategy or policy is explained in plain English and is integrated with data management principles and knowledge.
The course includes jointly-developed, relevant examples and case studies.
  • Often, this is presented in a ‘day-in-the-life’ format.

Challenge: Your analyst team spends too long wrangling the data, not analysing the data. Your aim is to make them a data management ally and collaborate to improve efficiency.

Training solution:

  • A workshop for the data/business analyst team.
  • Explanation of how data management differs from data analysis and business decision-making and the value they each bring.
  • Exploration of the value of curating data and where to demand better-managed data.
  • Workshopping of data pain points and inefficiencies, how to communicate these and find potential solutions.

Challenge: Your executives have encouraged developing a data plan, but now seem disengaged, paying little attention to active sponsorship.

Training solution

  • Face-to-face workshops for executives and other senior staff.
  • The workshop will integrate your organisation’s (data) strategy and desired outcomes with a data management point of view. The purpose is to identify how better data could make an impact.
  • Each executive group is different: some are highly operational; some conceptual; some risk-averse; some more adventurous. Successful executive workshops require not just relevancy, but also alignment with the group culture.

Challenge: You have new recruits that must gain a rapid, common understanding of how to work with and manage your data.

Training solution

  • Small group training, working through the principles and practices of data management.
  • Basic data management capability (knowledge) areas from the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBoK).
  • Deep dive into a couple of priority knowledge areas to get the group started on their responsibilities (e.g. data quality or data security).

Challenge: With almost all staff touching data daily, you must ensure they understand the risks, value, responsibilities and ethics around handling data.

Training solution

  • Video conferencing, face-to-face lectures, or eLearning formats.
  • The training explains the contribution of each person to improving data and how it affects the success of your organisation.
  • Your data policies are explained in plain English with relevant examples.

Challenge: You’re a newly appointed CDO or data manager. Your role is new or you are new to it, and you need support to establish and embed data practices.

Training solution

  • Regular one-on-one coaching and mentoring from a seasoned data management professional and CDMP Master.
  • Exploration of your organisation’s strategy and how to align your data strategy.
  • Practical case studies and discussions
Support to build business cases, lift data culture, improve data capability and make progress.
